Five Go Nuts In Shibuya

Pizzicato Five ‎- On Her Majesty's Request [32DH 5279 JPN 1989 FLAC]

As part of my drive to fill your head with the weird and wonderful, here is the third long player from Japanese Shibuya-kei popsters, Pizzicato Five. Imagine a world full of lounge meets Zappa meets synthpop meets John Barry. Yes folks it has come to this!

  2. Great album!

I was a little surprised at the almost complete lack of female vocals, probably because I am more familiar with their mid-to-late-nineties output on the Matador label, but it is in no way any kind of deal-breaker.

It's such a feel-good album that I wonder if it has deceptively dark lyrics.

  4. There's a censored version? What was the supposedly objectionable material?

  5. From Discogs: "The African Queen" contained a sample of The Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil," and was left off the reissue for rights issues. "Her Majesty Au Go-Go" also has many samples that were not cleared.
