Anathema - Falling Deeper [KSCOPE 187 UK 2011 FLAC]
I've never thought Anathema was a good name for a band, it's meaning turns many away and hides what they were to become from deserving audiences. It took the sacking of a singer, many line up rotations, drug problems and ultimately the death of the Cavanagh brother's mother for Anathema to wisely digress from cookie-monster death metal to melodic orchestral rock. It took nearly twenty years for front man Vincent Cavanagh to find his voice, and true to his scouse-Irish roots, he has one hell of a voice.
Falling Deeper is mostly an instrumental album, if you need to hear how good a vocalist Vincent is, then seek out his majestic Dreaming Light. I've picked this album out purely for the splendid orchestral arrangements by brother, Danny Cavanagh (with a bit of help from Dave Stewart). These boys are very talented musicians, mostly overlooked in their home market, however big in Europe, where perhaps genre snobbery does not exist as much as it does in the UK.
